Four states of mind presented in a guide about the creative process

View the whole press release

Finsa’s new trendbook is an inspirational guide for interior designers and architecture professionals

Developed in collaboration with the prestigious ‘Colour Hive’ trend agency in London, Finsa’s 2018-2019 trendbook is a result of analyzing the evolution of our lifestyle and buying habits, aiming to understand how cultural and social changes affect and define us. This guide takes into account the most significative advances in technology, architecture, and interior design; in order to identify trends and key factors that frame the context in the applications of decorative surfaces which are present in the spaces we live in.

In this third edition developed by Finsa, we identify four states of mind which are present in the creative process and are the names of the trends in the guide. Maite Rodríguez, member of the Design Department at Finsa, explains the process: “Firstly, we Wonder and embrace the unknown, taking confident steps into the future of design. We then Explore and push the boundaries, adopting a bold maximalist approach and breaking any previous rules. Next, we Master our craft and evoke an elegant and luxurious approach. Looking to traditional techniques and only what is refined to the highest standards, we seek to conquer our doubts and fears. In the fourth step, Reflect, we strip everything back to leave what is vital, seeking comfort and calm within designs that are pure and essential.

Our states of Mind & Matter are thus formed and the surfaces that are inspired by this process lie within. Each state of mind has a different source of inspiration and, therefore, a different colour palette mirrors its essence. These colour palettes include different prints and textures and suggest possible combinations for the new Finsa Gama Duo melamines that follow the mentioned trends.

The trendbook will be one of the main foci of Finsa’s stand at the Surface Design Show in London, taking place in the Business Design Centre from 6-8 February 2018. This is the only event in the UK that focuses solely on interior and exterior surfaces, connecting innovative and exciting materials with an audience of architects, specifiers and designers. Since its launch in 2005, the show has become the hot spot for industry people to immerse themselves in the latest materials for the built environment, gain new insights and network with like-minded designers, architects and suppliers.
