Why Surface Design Show?

Surface Design Show is one of the fastest growing shows in the UK

In 2015 we achieved a 49% increase in our professional audience and in 2016 we continued the upward trend with another 5% jump. Put this alongside a carefully managed growth in exhibitor numbers and you can see why this is a show being talked about.

Surface Design Show is about materials. Whether it be natural stone, recycled, acoustic, biophilic, solid surface or lighting - SDS has the very lates innovations, inspirations and aspirations.

It’s more than just a show!

Surface Design Show is packed with presentations, seminars and features

Opening Night & Live Debate – Tuesday 6 February 2018 18.00-21.00

Surface Design Show 2018 kicks off with the ever popular Preview Evening - open to all visitors.

Past speakers have included RIBA Presidents Sunand Prasad and Angela Brady; London Mayor Ken Livingstone; Will Hutton of The Works Foundation; Mark Whitby of Ramboll, Patrick Schumacher of Zaha Hadid Architects; Maria Smith of Studio Weave; Eleanor Young of RIBA Journal, Tom Davies of TD Tom Davies, George Saumarez Smith of Adam Architecture and Peter Murray of New London Architecture.

PechaKucha Evening – Wednesday 7 February 2018 18.00 – 21.00

PechaKucha is an exciting and inspiring presentation format where architects and interior designers show 20 images, each for 20 seconds.

Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of "chit chat", it provides a lively, informal and fun format enjoyed by a huge audience.

Our 2017 PechaKucha will be chaired by architect Phil Coffey of Coffey Architects, who has selected ten of his peers to take part in this lively discussion.

In keeping with the style of PechaKucha, attendees are provided with a free beer or wine to help them relax as they watch the action.

Surface Design Awards Presentation– Thursday 8 February 2018 12.00-14.00

From a vast array of entries, judges selected 33 of this year's architectural projects that they felt displayed use of innovative surface materials, all of which will be displayed on a central feature at Surface Design Show.

We'll also be announcing the winners of each category, as well as the Supreme Winner, at the Awards Presentation on the final day of the Show.

Seminar Programme

Surface Design Show and Light School are well known for the quality of seminars and presentations held each year.

Three stages will be in operation right through Surface Design Show.

Home of the headline acts, the Main Stage will host some 11 presentations, whilst Light Talks is home to everything ‘Light’ and is more often than not standing room only!

The CPD Hub gives our professional audience the chance to update and gain points at the latest CPD Approved seminars, before transorming into the Stone Hub on the Thursday to provide analysis and inspiration for those in the stone industry.

Surface Spotlight

This is an opportunity for architects and designers to see the best of advanced materials curated by leading experts.

Colour forecaster Sally Angharad will be curating Surface Spotlight 2018 which will consist of a regular Surface Spotlight Newsletter circulated to architects and designers and an ‘at show’ feature and presentation showcasing the most innovative surface design materials shortly to hit the market.
