PECHAKUCHA EVENING

Our ever popular PechaKucha Evening will again be hosted by Cany Ash, founder partner of Ash Sakula

Cany Ash is a founder partner of Ash Sakula Architects. Before setting up the practice in 1994 Cany Ash worked for Green Market in New York, Leon Wolhage in Berlin, DEGW and the GLC Architects Department in London.

PechaKucha is a simple presentation format where architects and interior designers will show 20 images, each for 20 seconds. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of "chit chat", it provides a lively, informal and fun format enjoyed by a huge audience.

Adam Furman

Adam Furman is a designer based in London. He trained in Architecture and Fine Art, and works in those areas as well as products, interiors, writing and teaching. He is the founding director of Madam Studio and Saturated Space. 

Pia Pelkonen, Ardesia Design

Pia graduated with a BA Hons in Interior Design at Kingston University and is currently an interior designer at Notting Hill based interior design studio Ardesia Design. Ardesia Design specialises in bespoke interior design services for private clients and for investors, both in the UK and abroad. Pia is a member of the British Institute of Interior Design.

Mark Ridler, BDP Lighting

Mark is a designer with years of experience in theatre and architecture. He currently leads the lighting profession within BDP. He is very active in the industry and regularly contributes to international publications and conferences. He co-authored the BCO Lighting Guide and wrote the Professional Lighting Designers' Association ethics policy. He is the first ever Chartered Lighting Designer through the ILP for whom he serves as Vice President.

Robert Sakula, Ash Sakula

After studying architecture at the University of Liverpool, Robert Sakula worked for Sir Clough Williams-Ellis at Portmeirion, and with David Lea. He co-founded Ash Sakula Architects in 1994. Robert Sakula has taught and lectured on architecture in London, Newcastle, Stockholm, Oslo, Milan, Berlin and Chongqing. He is a RIBA Competitions Advisor and a Civic Trust Awards Assessor. He is a member of the London Borough of Newham Design Review Panel

Don Gray, Kent School of Architecture

Don Gray has worked with the visionary architect Cedric Price, and built major projects with Richard Rogers, Renzo Piano and Nicholas Grimshaw among others. He has held senior appointments at the Bartlett and Architectural Association Schools in London and has written new learning programmes for De Montfort University and the University of the Arts, London. He is actively involved with the profession as a RIBA Validation Panel member and as an Examiner at ARB.  He also holds positions as External Examiner to a number of UK Schools of Architecture.

Ruth Morrow, Tactility Factory

Ruth is co-founder of Tactility Factory, an award winning company making innovative concrete surfaces. Together with Trish Belford, they have devised technology that uniquely allows concrete and textiles to permanently co-form surfaces. The work brings together two of Ireland’s indigenous industries: construction and textiles, resulting in highly original products and processes. Ruth is also Professor of Architecture at Queen’s University Belfast. tactilityfactory.com

Jonathan Hogg

Jonathan Hogg trained in software and electronics. He worked in academic research and then in the finance industry, designing and developing large-scale information systems, and as chief technology officer of a software start-up. In early 2009 he decided to focus on art and now creates – alone and in collaboration with others – interactive digital artworks, and multisensory installation and participatory art.

Laurent Louyer, Creatmosphere

Creatmosphere is an award-winning art and conceptual Lighting Studio founded in 2003 by French light artist Laurent Louyer. The studio attains an international and collaborative approach, drawing together lighting specialist, architects, set designers, digital artists and other programmers from across Europe and at international level to produce groundbreaking spatial interventions that animate and transform our everyday surroundings.

Martin Lupton and Sharon Stammers, Light Collective

Martin Lupton and Sharon Stammers are Light Collective, a UK Lighting Consultancy with a global portfolio. They have backgrounds in environmental engineering and theatre lighting, a Phd and an MSc in lighting and sixteen years each of experience as architectural lighting designers.

Marc Thomas, Millimetre

With a background in mechanical engineering and construction, Marc Thomas' expertise in the design, build and installation of space frames, grid shells and membrane structures have been integral to many high profile art projects, including Anish Kapoor's Taratantara(1999) and Rachel Whiteread's House (1993). He is currently project manager and consultant at Millimetre.
