Abstract paint effects offer a textural and luxurious look while remaining smooth and durable for hospitality and education environments.

Expressive colour and pattern can be seen in A.J Wells’ (Stand 480) Vlaze range of smooth and durable enamel finishes include a splattered effect for interior cladding and Solomon and Wu’s high polished resin panels that use pouring techniques to create spontaneous and unique effects. Presenting something more dynamic for floors in education Nora’s (Stand 240) latest collection of all-rubber coverings, Iona, uses its base colour much like a canvas with a variety of graphic designs being able to be integrated into the covering.

Anna Gravel Acoustic Panels

Anna Gravelle / Acoustic GRG

Etching is a key surface technique enjoying a revival, as the relationship between digital technologies and craft-based techniques gains momentum.

Innovative surface patterns reference the past as well as the future using laser etching: Daniel Heath’s wood veneer boards feature hand-drawn illustrations that have been digitally engraved onto the surface while Heliot and Co. give a traditional material a contemporary twist through laser etched patterning. Also creating a highly decorative surface for the hospitality sector, designer Anna Gravelle and Acoustic GRG have collaborated to create a series of acoustic panels including a polyester foam core covered in luxurious Italian leather with a pattern etched onto the surface.

Mundy Veneer

Through layering and trapping a variety of surfaces offer intrigue and depth, creating a bespoke look for hospitality.

An extra thick glass surface from Baranska Design (Stand 326) creates an exclusive look with a 3D effect as light refracts through its many layers, enhanced by metal oxide pigment for counter tops and luminous walls. Mixing materials and colours using techniques such as marquetry and sand blasting creates a flawless finish: Kate Gillies Surface Design mixes Jesmonite and mirror pieces together, followed by sanding the surface until the glistening freckles are visible, while Mundy Veneer (Stand 362) has reinterpreted a traditional process of inlaying wood veneers using laser cutting to create endless pattern repeats.
