Themes to take note of:
FINE LINES
Dune - Kit Kat Natucer – My V Deluxe
Tau - Olite El Barco - Domino
The delicacy of fine lines is a distinct trend in Spanish ceramics, offering a pleasing yet discreet sense of texture and an interplay with the light, together with the opportunity in some cases to use coloured grout to stylish effect. Decorative wall tiles, in ‘stacked’ formats or 3D extruded reliefs from brands such as Cevica, El Barco, Dune and Tau, enable a range of creative ways to apply this striking look.
FADED ELEGANCE
Porcelanosa – Nebula Decocer – Solstice
Realonda – Fresco Cristacer - Essentia
The proud history of Spanish ceramics, from artisanal craftsmanship to the iconic repeating motifs of encaustic tiles, is honoured by new collections that reference this tradition with contemporary ingenuity. The latest designs suggest surfaces that have stood the test of time, with all the charm of distressed effects or the intrigue of barely-there details. This soft, faded beauty also comes with all the strength, safety and easy-care durability of modern tile technology, from brands such as Porcelanosa, Decocer, Realonda and Cristacer.
TRIANGLES WITH A TWIST
Adex – Levante Vives - Micra Zepto
Cevica – New York
From nostalgic patterns to eye-catching optical effects, the humble triangle (and variations on the theme) is making its presence felt in recent Spanish tile collections. Versatility is key to the ceramic industry in Spain and hi-tech factories are able to produce everything from ‘handmade’ aesthetics to contemporary prints, with Adex, Vives and Cevica all shaping up beautifully to this geometric trend.
TERRIFIC TERRACOTTA
The burnt oranges and earthy browns of fired clay are deeply rooted in Spanish culture and instantly reminiscent of traditional architecture. In fresh yet warm celebrations of this motif, the latest collections breathe new life into terracotta in a variety of tones, textures and typologies. From the zelig formats of Cevica to the suggestion of visible toolwork from Roca and the matt, linear formats of Bestile and Equipe, terracotta returns in style.
Cevica - Zelij Roca – Fez
Equipe – Fango Bestile - Anisa
FROM WALL TO FLOOR
Arcana – Betilo Coverlam – Cuarzo
Undefasa – Solid+ Nordby
The new generations of hi-tech porcelain slabs can not only replicate the look of any material or finish, they can also be applied to any surface, vertical or horizontal. The advantages of installing a robust, high-performance, sustainable product to both wall and floor are both aesthetic and practical, offering cohesive looks, enduring beauty and easy maintenance. Specialist manufacturers Arcana, Coverlam and Undefasa have it comprehensively covered.
Tile of Spain looks forward to welcoming visitors to stand 401 at London’s Business Design Centre from the 6th to the 8th of February 2024.
